Building Data Science for Social Justice (DS4SJ) Ecosystems: Sustaining Impact

Project Description

This project proposes a novel infrastructure to deepen Pitt’s impact in DS4SJ, improving connections across units and providing workplace-relevant student training in multidisciplinary teamwork. We propose a coordination of capstone classes across disciplines and semesters to scope, develop, implement, and deploy data science projects out of community requests, supported by a diverse ecosystem of faculty, staff, community members, and student leaders. A core faculty/staff cohort will integrate takeaways into the norms, policies, and curricula in their respective units and share their experiences in public workshops. This project aligns the P4P with the DTSF recommendation through a community-centered lens.
